Rotherham Digital Inclusion Network Launch October 6th
The Rotherham Digital Inclusion Network (RDIN) held its launch event “Getting Rotherham Online” on Monday October 6th at the Unity Centre in Rotherham. The event was well attended by both the public, volunteers and local support organisations.
Communitas is an active partner in the RDIN, a group of individuals and organisations, in and around Rotherham, who work together to maximise opportunities for everyone to become able, confident and safe in accessing the internet. Communitas is currently utilising Union Learning Funded resources to support learners in several community settings, as a result of this partnership.
ULF project officer, Pauline Thrower is delivering introductory courses throughout the area and can be contacted at email@example.com should you wish to join one of her informal groups. Pauline is able to cater for all ability levels, from absolute novice to more accomplished users.
Steve Ruffle, Development Manager, Rotherham Federation of Communities said “So much nowadays happens online. Those people who are not on or familiar with using the internet are missing out on so much.
Nearly 20% of Rotherham residents are not online or don’t have the internet skills everyone needs nowadays for work, play, health, information and much more. Most importantly being on the internet can help you save a lot of money and because of this, many of the poorest people in the Borough are becoming even poorer.
More and more people, particularly some of us who are over 50 are losing out and being left behind. The network is about working with and supporting people to feel comfortable online not making people do things they don’t want to. The web should be for everyone.
This “Getting Rotherham Online’ event marks the launch of the Rotherham Digital Inclusion Network (#RDIN) – a group of people and organisations wanting to make a difference, to help people all around the Borough to get online and be confident using the web”.
We will offer general advice such as setting up an email address and web searches, we will signpost to the sessions run by Pauline, if you are interested in attending a course.
